Shaun Francis (born October 20, 1986 in Mandeville ) is a Jamaican football player who is mostly used as a defender . He is currently under contract with the San José Earthquakes .
Career
Youth and amateur football
After graduating from high school in Jamaica, Francis moved to the United States . There he went to Lindsey Wilson College for four years , where he played for his university's soccer team, the Blue Raiders. In 61 games for his university, Francis scored 7 goals.
At the same time he also played in the Premier Development League for the Indiana Invaders and Thunder Bay Chill .
Club career
Francis was chosen as the 15th pick (63rd overall) in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus crew . After signing a professional contract there, he played his first competitive game in July 2010 in the US Open Cup. He made his debut in Major League Soccer on July 17, 2010 in a game against New York Red Bulls .
On June 27, 2012, Columbus prematurely terminated the contract and Francis was associated with the Philadelphia Union . After there was no commitment, however, Francis signed a contract with the Charlotte Eagles in the United Soccer League , the third highest division in the United States. After the end of the season in the USL, he completed one more game for Chicago Fire . But when they did not renew his contract, he signed up for the MLS Re-Entry Draft . After he was elected by the San José Earthquakes , he signed a contract there.
National team
Francis made his national team debut on October 10, 2010 in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago . He scored his first goal during the 2010 Caribbean Cup against Guadeloupe .
