The Sheikh Zayed Stadium is a cricket stadium in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates . It was named after the Emir Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and cost $ 23 million to build.
Capacity & Infrastructure
When it opened in 2004, it was supposed to be the most modern cricket stadium in the world. It has a capacity of 20,000 seats. The lighting system consists of four 70 m high floodlight masts, each with 60 large spotlights. The players' rooms are equipped with air conditioning to make the high temperatures bearable for the waiting players. The two ends at which there are two large stands are called the North End and Pavilion End .
International cricket
The first international match took place between Kenya and Scotland in the 2004 Intercontinental Cup . After the attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team, the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to move all future Pakistani matches to the United Arab Emirates for security reasons. Since 2006 the stadium has been one of the three "new" home stadiums ( Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium ) for the Pakistani national cricket team. In addition to international test matches and one-day internationals , Indian Premier League matches were also held here in 2014 .
