geography
The Shelf Glacier is located in the Kichatna Mountains , a sub-range of the southern Alaska range. It is located within Denali National Park . The nutrient zone of the Shelf Glacier is located below the northwest flank of The Citadel summit at an altitude of 2000 m . The glacier flows in a northerly direction, flanked on both sides by a mountain ridge. Beyond these mountain ridges, the Cul-de-Sac Glacier in the west and the Shadows Glacier in the east run parallel to the north . Eventually the eastern ridge ends and the Shelf Glacier turns northeast to merge with the Shadows Glacier. The place where the two glaciers meet is at an altitude of 1100 m . The average glacier width is 600 m.
