The Sheridan Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest 25 km east of Cordova .
geography
The 25 km long Sheridan Glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1200 m in the Chugach Mountains north of Mount Murchison . The Sheridan Glacier, which has an average width of 1.5 km, initially flows southwest, later turns in a south-southwest direction and ends 15 km from the Pacific coast. The Sheridan River flows from the glacier tongue of the Sheridan Glacier to the sea. It is crossed by the Copper River Highway .
Naming
The glacier was named by WR Abercrombie during his exploration of the Copper River in 1884 after Philip Sheridan (1831-1888), Commander in Chief of the US Army during the Civil War .
