Sheriff was a Canadian rock band from the 1980s. Their biggest hit was When I'm with You , which only became a hit with its second single in 1989, four years after the band split up.

history

Sheriff was founded in 1979 in Toronto ( Canada ). Band leader Arnold Lanni dropped out of college to make music and composed When I'm with You for his girlfriend. In 1982 Sheriff released her debut album of the same name on Capitol Records . Her third single, When I'm with You , became a number 1 hit in Canada in 1983 and reached number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

Despite touring with well-known bands such as the Beach Boys , the band made little money with their music. This led to internal quarrels, in the course of which the group separated in 1985. Arnold Lanni and Wolf Hassel formed the new group Frozen Ghost . Freddy Curci and Steve de Marchi formed the band Alias ​​in 1990 .

In late 1988, various radio stations began playing When I'm with You . So it happened that Capitol Records released the song again as a single in February 1989. During 1989, the single sold over 500,000 copies in the US, was awarded gold and was number 1 in the US.
