Shibuya (Kanagawa)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shibuya ( Japanese 渋 谷 村 , Shibuya- mura , 1944–55 渋 谷 町 , Shibuya- machi ) was a community on the right bank of the Sakaigawa in the Kōza district of the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa , pre-modern of the ancient Ritsuryō province of Sagami until 1956 . Like Shibuya of the same name in Tokyo / Musashi Province, the area was ruled by the Shibuya family in the Middle Ages . As a modern village community (-mura) Shibuya first existed from 1889 to 1944, when it was upgraded to a district town (-machi) . In 1955 the city was divided: The south with the districts Chōgo and Takakura came to the independent city (-shi) Fujisawa , the rest with the districts Fukuda, Kami- and Shimo-Wada remained independent as Shibuya-mura . In 1956 this was finally incorporated into the city of Yamato .

In the urban area of Shibuya, the Kōza-Shibuya and Shin-Chōgo (today Chōgo) stations on the Odakyū Enoshima line were located from 1929, and the Sakuragaoka station was added in 1952. In 1942 the Imperial Navy Air Force opened the Atsugi airfield on the western border of the municipality, a naval base since the occupation, which has also been used by the self-defense forces since the 1970s.

Since the nationwide reorganization of districts in the post-war decades, a small part of the former community today forms Shibuya ( 渋 谷 , Shibuya ), a district of the city of Yamato with the zip code 242-0023, which is divided into six numbered sections (chōme) . As of January 1, 2018, Shibuya 1-6-chōme had a total of 2,673 inhabitants, according to the city council.
