The Maritim Hotel Bonn is a hotel with an associated conference center of the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft in the Bonn district of Hochkreuz , which was opened in 1990.

location

The hotel is located in the south of the federal quarter at the north end and on the east side of Godesberger Allee ( Bundesstrasse 9 ) at the corner of Heinemannstrasse and at the A562 / B9 intersection . Access is via the Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee at the rear. The hotel wing is crossed by a ramp of the light rail line over the south bridge in a curve leading to the underground station Robert-Schuman-Platz .

history

The construction of a hotel and a conference center at the location were part of the planning for the expansion of the then parliamentary and government district to the northern edge of the Bad Godesberg district since 1978, when the federal government had carried out an urban planning ideas competition for this area, as part of the Development measure in urban planning responsibility to be implemented complementary facilities planned. In particular, there was a lack of a venue in Bonn where large international conferences could be held after the Beethoven Hall, which was busy with the growing number of conference and congress operations , had proven to be inadequate for these purposes. Initially, the construction of an ice rink was also planned as a further complementary facility, for which the city launched another architectural competition in 1981 with statements on a conference center and a hotel (1st prize: Stieldorf planning group ). This project had to be abandoned for financial reasons, as well as the originally planned construction of an isolated conference hall.

From 1985 the plans for a new hotel building with an attached conference center became more concrete, especially after the Federal Republic offered itself as a venue for a follow-up conference to the CSCE (1990) and city director Klaus Peter Rauen assured the federal government that the project would be completed on time. As part of its search for an investor and hotel operator, the city had already negotiated final negotiations with Maritim by June 1986, but initially opted for the Hilton hotel chain , which was to implement the project together with the Strabag construction company , based on a city council resolution . Hilton insisted on the construction of a hotel tower, which was rejected by the city planning department, and got out of the project in October 1986. In May 1987, the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft , which was now involved, was signed as the hotel operator via a preliminary contract , which finally accepted the urban design wishes, in particular for a block-shaped hotel building with overbuilding of the tram ramp. The city acquired the required property from the federal government in spring 1988; At the end of the year, she signed the contract with the hotel chain for the construction of the new building, which also included the facade design. The city contributed an investment grant of 13.5 million out of a total of around 100 million DM in the construction of the associated conference center, of which the federal government took over six million from funds from the so-called Bonn Agreement in 1980 . The Düsseldorf architects Hentrich , Petschnigg und Partner (HPP) were responsible for the conception and exterior design . Due to the weather, the main construction work could not begin until March 1989, so that the new building, which was under deadline pressure due to the delay for the CSCE conference, was completed within just ten months. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on September 20, and at the end of December 1989, large parts of the building were approved for use ; The first celebration took place in the hotel on New Year's Eve. The opening ceremony followed on January 17, 1990, the completion of the outdoor facilities and other remaining work a few weeks later.

When it opened, the Bonner Maritim was the second largest hotel and the largest conference center in North Rhine-Westphalia and had been fully booked with congresses for years. From 1990 to 1998 the Federal Press Ball took place in the Maritim Hotel Bonn . From November 1999 to the end of 2003, the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft in Bonn also ran the then International Congress Center Bundeshaus Bonn (IKBB; from 2007 World Conference Center Bonn ) on an interim basis . After the opening of the expanded World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) in 2015, the focus of international conferences in Bonn has shifted there. A comprehensive renovation of the Maritim Hotel Bonn took place from 2017 to 2019.

Furnishing

The hotel has 410 rooms on six floors, including 41 suites. Two restaurants, a café, a terrace ("fountain terrace") and a bar are available as gastronomic options. The event area offers space for a total of up to 5,000 people in 16 meeting and conference rooms, including the Maritime Hall with 2,800 (including 900 gallery) and the Beethoven Hall with 600 seats as the largest, each with a built-in stage . A foyer has around 1,000 m² of exhibition space.
