The UN climate conference in Bonn took place from October 25th to November 5th 1999 in Bonn . It was the fifth world climate conference. Participants included government delegations, journalists and representatives from international organizations and from environmental and business associations . The venue was the Maritim Hotel Bonn .
aims
The declared aim of the conference was to implement the agreements that had been made at the fourth world climate conference in Buenos Aires last year. These goals included:
- Analysis of greenhouse gas emissions in industrialized countries
- Creation of the necessary conditions for the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries
- Transfer of environmental technologies to developing countries
- Agreement on mechanisms to implement the Kyoto Protocol on the reduction of greenhouse gases
Because the “Buenos Aires Plan of Action” had ambitious goals, the frequency of meetings of the subsidiary bodies had been increased in the run-up to the summit and further informal consultations at a high level had been scheduled.
Results
At the conference in Bonn, a control system for compliance with obligations and the implementation of the Kyoto mechanisms, in particular the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), was discussed. Furthermore, guidelines for the preparation of national emissions reports by the industrialized countries were agreed.
