Shiga Yoshio ( Japanese 志賀義雄 ; born 12. January 1901 in Hagi ( Yamaguchi Prefecture ), died 6. March 1989 ) was a Japanese Marxist politician.

life and work

Shiga Yoshio joined the left-wing study group "Shinijinkai" (新人 während) while studying at Tokyo University and became a member of the Communist Party of Japan (CPJ).

After graduating in 1926, he ran, together with Tokuda Kyūichi , the re-establishment of the Communist Party, which had been dissolved the previous year. He was jailed as part of the March 15, 1928 purge , until the end of the Pacific War in 1945.

After his release, Shiga participated in the re-establishment of the CPJ and became the editor of the party newspaper Akahata . He was elected to the Reichstag in 1946 and had to give up public activities as a result of the “ Red Purge ” initiated by the American occupation forces.

In 1955 Shiga became active again and was elected to the CPJ Central Committee. In 1964 he was expelled from the party after he supported the 1963 Treaty on the Ban on Nuclear Weapons Tests .

Shiga was buried in Tama Cemetery .
