Shiira (from Japanese シ イ ラ , [ ɕiːɺa ], Ger . " Common golden mackerel ", Coryphaena hippurus ) was a web browser for macOS . It was based on Cocoa and relied on Apple's WebKit , which is based on KHTML , for the display of websites . Web sites were thus presented as well as in Apple Safari from Apple . In contrast to Safari, Shiira's source code was published under the BSD license and was therefore free software .
A first beta version of Shiira 2.0 for Mac OS X 10.4 was released in August 2006, and Shiira 2.0, a completely revised version of the browser, was released in April of the following year.
Skills
In contrast to Safari, Shiira offered much more extensive setting options and functions (list not complete):
- The symbol sets could be exchanged at will.
- The user could switch between the aqua and metal style.
- In contrast to Safari, the setting "Private surfing" remained activated even after exiting the browser and was only deactivated when the user explicitly requested it.
- As in Firefox, the standard fonts could be adjusted in great detail.
- Shiira had a clear drawer for bookmarks, history, download manager, page storage and RSS.
- Shiira supported Reiter- Exposé (F8), d. H. you could have all the open tabs displayed like playing cards placed side by side.
- Shiira could view bookmarks from Safari and Mozilla Firefox directly without importing them first.
- The search engine in the toolbar could be freely selected.
Shiira used the same cookie store as Safari and other WebKit programs.
A sub-project of Shiira was the Shiira mini browser, a dashboard widget that was supposed to facilitate quick access to websites. Shiira mini has remained unchanged in version 1.3 since March 2006.
