Shijie (Guangde)

Shijie ( Chinese  誓 節 鎮  /  誓 节 镇 , Pinyin Shìjié Zhèn ) is a large community in the west of the urban district of Guangde in Anhui Province , People's Republic of China . Shijie has an area of ​​342 km² and 76,532 inhabitants (end of 2017). In addition to granite, primarily fluorite is mined there; in the area of ​​the large community, there is the largest deposits of high quality fluorite in the province of Anhui. 7 km south of the city lies the rocket launch site Guangde (广德火箭发射场), also known as "base 603" (603基地), from where the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1960 to 1966 sounding rockets , some with animals, on suborbital flights sent .

history

The place owes its existence to a ford (ferry station in summer) that crosses the Tongrui River (桐 汭 河) and has therefore been known as “Shijiedu” (誓 节 渡), or “Shijie transition”, since the Tang Dynasty " known. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic , wooden bridges were built there several times, but they were repeatedly torn away by floods. In 1932, a pontoon bridge suitable for motor vehicles was built there from large rafts to close the gap in the connecting road from Xuancheng to Changxing in Zhejiang (today's G318 national road ). In 1933 the pontoon bridge was replaced by a 96 m long wooden bridge with a load capacity of 5 tons, which, however, was burned down by the Kuomintang government during the anti-Japanese war in 1938 to slow the advance of the Japanese. Today, in addition to the motorway bridge from 1996, there is also an inner-city road bridge that was opened to traffic in September 1953 and has been renewed several times, as well as a railway bridge over the river.
