Emperor Shijō ( Japanese 四条 天皇 , Shijō-tennō ; * March 17, 1231 ; † February 10, 1242 ) was the 87th Tennō of Japan (October 26, 1232-10 February 1242). His proper name was Mitsuhito ( 秀 仁 ).

Shijō was the eldest son of Emperor Go-Horikawa . Go-Horikawa passed the throne to Shijō when Shijō was one year old. Two years after his coronation, his father died, who was only 22 years old. Regents of the emperor ( Sesshō ) were Kujō Norizane (1232-1235), Kujō Michiie (1235-1237) and Konoe Kanetsune (1237-1242). Military rulers remained the Minamoto as shoguns , while the Hōjō family exercised the actual power in the background.

Shijō died of illness at the age of ten, and was succeeded by his cousin Go-Saga .
