Shimmer and Shine (Original title: Shimmer and Shine ) is an American animated cartoon series . The first broadcast on Nickelodeon US took place on August 24, 2015, in German-speaking countries the series started on pay TV on Nick Jr. on January 17, 2016, and Shimmer and Shine was first shown on Free TV on April 5, 2017 on Nickelodeon . The series is aimed at preschoolers .

The twins Shimmer and Shine are two young bottle spirits ("Dschinnis in training") in the fantasy realm of Zahramay Falls, who fulfill three wishes of their human friend Leah, who she freed from her bottle (in which Zahramay Falls is), every day. Since Shimmer and Shine are still very young, something often goes wrong when fulfilling their wishes, whereupon everyone has to master and resolve the situations that have arisen together. In the first season you have to be careful that Zac, Leah's friend, does not notice anything about the existence of the Djinnis. From the second season Zac knows about the existence of the ghosts and the action takes place mainly in Zahramay Falls, where many other genes and mythical creatures live.

The American organization Common Sense Media , which judges television series primarily on the basis of educational and child-friendly motifs, awards Shimmer and Shine three stars out of five possible. Positive is the aspect of the series that you can face mistakes with a positive attitude and learning from them, but parents should also note that realistic consequences of the problematic situations that could arise in real life are not presented in the series.

The creator of Shimmer and Shine , Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz, named the American sitcom Charming Jeannie as one of her sources of inspiration for the series in an interview . The actress of Jeannie, Barbara Eden , took on the role of Empress Caliana in the episode The Crystal Queen (second season).
