The Shimmering Icefield is a glacier field in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Allan Hills it lies between Shipton Ridge and Tilman Ridge .
It was given its descriptive name by a team from the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program to explore the Allan Hills in 1964. It is named after the mother-of-pearl shine that emanates from this formation in backlight .
