The Allan Hills are a group of mainly ice-free hills in East Antarctic Victoria Land . They extend over a length of 12 miles immediately northwest of the Coombs Hills near the head ends of Mawson Glaciers and Mackay Glaciers .
The New Zealand Northern Group of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) mapped them and named the hills after the New Zealand geologist Robin Sutcliffe Allan (1900-1966) from the University of Canterbury .
