The Shine Falls are inaccessible, terraced waterfalls in the Hawke's Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Shine Falls are located in the mountainous region of the Maungaharuru Range , around 50 km west of Wairoa and around 20 km northwest of the New Zealand coast to the Pacific Ocean . The waterfalls spread over two drains over a span of around 20 m. The height of fall is 58 m , starting over a cliff edge at a height of 430 m . The waterfalls are fed by the boundary stream , which has a water catchment area of around 12 km². The falls are accessible from New Zealand State Highway 2 via Matahorua Road and Heays Access Road to the west.

The 800 hectare area around the falls was protected as a Boundary Stream Reserve in 1976 . Birds such as the Kokako , the brown kiwi , the North Island Robin , the Kereru , the North Island Kaka and the New Zealand Falcon can be found in the area. As a further specialty, a Mataī tree over 800 years old can be seen in the area .
