Coordinates: 22 ° 42 ′ S , 117 ° 48 ′ E The Shire of Ashburton is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 101,240 km² and has about 13,000 inhabitants (2016).
Ashburton is located on the west coast about 1000 km north of the capital Perth . The headquarters of the Shire Council is in Tom Price in the east of the LGA, where about 3000 residents live (2016).
Barrow Island also belongs to the municipality .

The Ashburton Council has nine members elected by residents of the six wards (three from the Tom Price Ward, two from the Paraburdoo Ward, and one each from the Ashburton, Onslow, Pannawonica and Tableland Ward). The Council Chairman and President des Shires are also recruited from among the Councilor.
