Iron ore mine at Tom Price

Tom Price was founded as a mining town in the 1960s and has 2,721 residents. The largest employer is the global mining company Rio Tinto Group , which operates a huge iron ore mine a few kilometers outside the city . This mine and the strong demand for raw materials in recent years have made Tom Price a very prosperous city today. The average income of Rio Tinto workers is above the Australian average. Rio Tinto also attracts many young professionals to the town, which means that the average age of Tom Price's residents is now under 30.

The place is on the Dampier –Tom Price– Paraburdoo railway , which is used to remove the ore rock .

Tom Price as a city is rather uninteresting from a tourist point of view, but offers some attractions in the vicinity. The best known is certainly the Karijini National Park , which extends in an easterly direction to a few kilometers from the city. Another attraction is Mount Nameless. All-wheel drive vehicles are allowed to drive on this mountain southwest of the city .
