Paraburdoo is a town in the Pilbara region ( Ashburton Shire ) in the Australian state of Western Australia .
location
The miners' settlement with around 1,400 inhabitants (as of 2016) is located in northwest Australia and the state of Western Australia, a good 420 km south of the coast with the (port) towns of Dampier , Karratha and Port Walcott near Wickham on the Indian Ocean .
The Hamersley Range with Mount Bruce (1234 m high) and Mount Meharry (1251 m) extends north of the village. This is also where the Karijini National Park (formerly "Hamersley National Park") is located.
Economy and Transport
The iron ore deposits located here have been mined by the international mining company Rio Tinto Group since the 1960s .
Paraburdoo Airport is about 10 km away .
The place is the end of the railway line Dampier - Tom Price - Paraburdoo, which is used to transport the ore rock.
