Wickham is an Australian town located 1,572 kilometers north of Perth , 33 kilometers from Karratha and 13 kilometers north of Roebourne in the West Australian Pilbara region .

The city's first buildings were built in 1970 on the Cliffs Robe River for workers at the Pannawonica iron ore mine , located on Cape Lambert and owned by the Rio Tinto Group . The extracted iron ore is shipped from Port Walcott . Most of the houses and buildings in the village are also owned by Rio Tinto.

Wickham was originally self-governing, but local government was incorporated into the City of Karratha in 1980 when a public building was built in the village .
