Coordinates: 24 ° 53 ′ S , 113 ° 39 ′ E The Shire of Carnarvon is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 46,664 km² and has about 5500 inhabitants (2016).
Carnarvon is located in the west of the state on the Australian west coast about 810 kilometers north of the capital Perth . The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of Carnarvon , where about 4500 inhabitants live (2016).

The Carnarvon Council has eight members, seven councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (four from the Town Ward, one each from the Plantation, Coral Bay and Gascoyne / Minilya Ward). The chairman of the council (Shire President) is also elected by all residents of the Shire.
