Shlomo Shpiro

Shlomo J. Shpiro (* 1966 ; Hebrew שלמה שפירא) is an Israeli political scientist and author . He is a professor at Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv .

Shlomo Shpiro studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , where he made a Bachelor of Arts in 1992 , the University of Salford , where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1994 , in Oslo and at the University of Birmingham . There he received his doctorate in 1998. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Bonn and Cologne . Since 1998 he has taught communication studies and political science at Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv. He is the owner of the Paterson-chair of security and intelligence services ( Security and Intelligence ) and was until 2017 head of the Department of Political Studies.

His research topics include intelligence services in Israel and Europe, relations between the mass media and the world of security services, and NATO . He appeared repeatedly as an expert in German media. Here he spoke in particular on questions of the fight against terrorism, including both in relation to historical topics such as the Palestinian terrorism of the 1970s, for example the massacre of Munich in 1972, and Israel's reactions to it, as well as to Islamist-motivated terrorism of the 21st century daily events, such as in December 2016 about the attack on the Berlin Christmas market at the Gedächtniskirche , which he said he had visited shortly before.
