Shot Online is a golf simulation that players can play simultaneously over the Internet . The game was developed by the Korean company Onnet, which also distributes the English version of the game via its own "GamesCampus" portal. The German subsidiary OnNet Europe GmbH has been selling the German and other European language versions since October 2010.

history

Shot Online was originally developed for the Korean market and was later distributed in the USA by the American arm of the developer OnNet. The game first appeared in 2004 and was available directly as a free download. The first German version then followed in the second quarter of 2007 via the German publisher gamigo AG. A box version has been available in American stores since 2006. In Germany, too, a box version has been available in stores since July 2008, which the publisher calls a special edition . Since mid-October 2010, Shot Online has been supported on the European market by Games Campus EU and OnNet Europe.

Game flow

A client program is required to play, which can either be downloaded from the respective publisher or purchased in stores. Since the latter, unlike the download version, is chargeable, it offers exclusive advantages depending on the publisher. In addition, an account with the respective provider portal is required, in which the characters, the game progress and the items of the players are saved.

After the player has created a character, he finds himself on a forecourt where he can purchase various items or meet with other players. An entrance then leads to the actual golf courses, on which games for up to four players and over up to 18 holes can be started. In addition, criteria for winning the game can be determined based on the game type. The respective winner receives more experience points and play money than their opponents.

Operation and environmental influences

The control itself is rather simple, but requires that various factors be taken into account. The player first selects a club, if he does not have a virtual caddy who takes on this task, and then aligns the direction of the shot. In addition, he can give the ball a spin that changes its trajectory depending on the character's ability value. At the touch of a button, the player can see where the ball would hit with the selected settings, maximum force and neutral environmental conditions.

The actual stroke is then carried out by a so-called 3-click system. With one click, the player sets a small image of a golf club on a bar, which shows the stroke strength. Another click stops the bat and moves it back. Now it is necessary to stop it with a third click as precisely as possible at the 0% mark on the bar in order to play the ball as precisely as possible in the selected direction.

However, various environmental influences must also be taken into account when executing the blow. In bad weather, hits do not reach the maximum range and wind deflects the ball in the air. In addition, the ground, such as sand or deep grass, as well as the slope at the tee point are relevant for the flight path. The temperature displayed in the game also influences the length of the shot.

Characters

There are currently seven different characters to choose from at the beginning. These differ not only in their individual appearance, but also in their capabilities. Every figure has different advantages and disadvantages from the start, which the player can compensate for over time.

Places

In Shot Online there are currently 20 different courses with 18 holes each, one course with 9 holes and also 4 different "random courses", in which courses are randomly compiled from the 20 18-hole courses. The courses differ in their difficulty, the "green fee", a certain amount of play money that must be paid at the start of the game, and the experience points to be achieved or the play money that can be earned (NG). While many of the courses are based on real places, there are also some fictional places like a volcanic landscape and platforms floating in the sky. With a platinum membership there are no court fees.

Objects

Each player can buy various items for his golfer. In addition to bats and balls, there are also numerous items of clothing such as T-shirts and hats. While some items of clothing alone change the appearance of the character, most items also have a positive effect on the character values or ensure a faster level up, for example "Cyma" (amount of money per hole is tripled) or Zodiac (all stats are increased by 1/2/4 ).

Level system

For each hole played, the player receives experience points depending on his performance. If he has collected enough of it, his character goes up a level and gets skill points. These can then be divided into the four values of strength, accuracy, ability and endurance. By steadily ascending, the character can continue to hit over time, or give the ball a stronger spin when teeing off. From a certain level onwards, the character goes from beginner to amateur (level 21) and later, after passing an exam, to semi-pro (from level 41), tour pro (from level 61), senior (level 100), master -Pro (Level 102), RoyalPro (Level 104), large RoyalPro I (Level 110), large RoyalPro II (Level 115), NationalPro I (Level 120), NationalPro II (Level 125), NationalPro III (Level 130), WorldPro I (Level 150), WorldPro II (Level 160), WorldPro III (Level 170)

There are now players on the German servers who have exceeded level 160. Status: October 6, 2015: highest character level 162. Status June 15, 2017 Now up to level 200 players.

Seasons

At irregular intervals, developer OnNet brings out a major update that brings the game into the next "season". These updates always contained new golf courses, a new playable character, many new items and game changes. The third season, which started on September 9, 2008, is currently running in Germany. In addition to some minor innovations, the update added the new female character "Camilla" and the golf course "Pearl Green Island" located on a South Sea island. However, the counting method used in Germany is not internationally valid. In the case of the language versions distributed by OnNet, the update, which is always published in the second half of the year, is referred to as "Season 2" each year. Episode 1.5 has been running on the German servers since April 22, 2010. In August 2012 a new beginner system was published, which automatically equips newly created characters with a URD club set. At a guild meeting for French players in July 2012, the publisher Gamescampus announced a new golf course. This should be based on the "Song Gia Golf Country Club" in Vietnam and be published in autumn 2012 as part of a new update.
