Shpock is an online marketplace platform, which means using a mobile app (short: app ) allows the private buying and selling things in the environment or using a browser. Shpock is operated by finderly GmbH and employs more than 185 people. Finderly GmbH belongs to the Norwegian media group Schibsted .

history

Shpock stands for “ Sh op in your pock et” and was first offered for free download in September 2012 for iOS and Android devices. Within the first year, the app was downloaded more than a million times. The app was developed by the Austrian start-up Finderly . The first financing came from own funds and subsidies, later business angels took part .

In 2016, Shpock was one of the ten most popular apps in Germany in terms of downloads in the App Store and Google Play . In Austria, the marketplace app was one of the ten most downloaded free iPhone apps in 2017. The app has now been downloaded more than 50 million times on iOS and Android devices (as of October 2018).

In November 2018, shortly after a change in management, a massive staff reduction was announced; the previously deficit company should now become profitable.

Awards

In 2018 Shpock was the winner of the award ceremony “Germany's best online portals 2018” in the “Marketplaces Private Providers” category of the German Institute for Service Quality. Google awards Shpock 2018 the title "Android Excellence App of 2018" in the Google Play Store and Apple names Shpock a "Best of 2017" app in the "Sustainability" category . At the Goldbach Youngstar Award, Shpock was named the "Youngest Brand in the 1st Half of 2018". In 2013 Shpock won the futurezone Award in the Apps category and was awarded the special Mingo prize at the Content Award Vienna . At the “Show your App” awards 2014, the app received silver.
