Shrewsbury and Atcham was an administrative district with borough status in the county of Shropshire in England . The administrative seat was the city of Shrewsbury , in which almost three quarters of the borough's population lived. Otherwise the district consisted only of small villages, including Atcham , Bayston Hill and Pontesbury . Shrewsbury is the city of flowers and the birthplace of Charles Darwin .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Municipal Borough of Shrewsbury and the Rural District Atcham. On April 1, 2009, it was dissolved due to a territorial and administrative reform.
