The Shuijing zhu ( Chinese  水經注  /  水经注 , Pinyin Shuǐjīng zhù , W.-G. Shui-ching chu  - "Commentary on the classic river, commentary on the book of waters, water book commentary, commentary on the water classic , water- Classic with commentary etc. ”) is a historical geographical commentary in 40 chapters by Li Daoyuan ( 酈 道 元  /  郦 道 元 , Li Tao-yüan ; † 527) from the time of the foreign rule of the Northern Wei Dynasty .

The original work Shuijing ( 水 經  /  水 经 ; Classic of Rivers, Book of Waters, Water Book, Water Classic, etc.) has been lost.

The course of the individual rivers determine the structure of the work. It describes the sources and courses of the rivers, the geography of their catchment areas and provides important information about the country and its people.

Shuijing

The original work Shuijing ( 水 经 ) was traditionally ascribed to Sang Qin ( 桑钦 ) from the time of the Han dynasty , according to scholars from the time of the Qing dynasty ( Dai Zhen and others) it probably dates from the time of the Three Kingdoms . It was commented on by Guo Pu ( 郭璞 ; 276–324), of which only the extensive revision of Li Daoyuan has survived. He increased the original number of 137 rivers by 1252 to 1389.
