Siboniso Gaxa (born April 6, 1984 in Durban ) is a South African soccer player who is currently under contract with the Kaizer Chiefs .

Club career

Gaxa played on the University of Port Elizabeth football team until 2002 , which was sponsored by the Danish club FC Copenhagen . In 2002 he signed a contract with the South African first division club Supersport United and became a regular player in the following years. The player, who can be used in central defense and on the right side of defense, won the SAA Supa 8 (2004), the ABSA Cup (2005) and the championship title in his last year at Supersport . His long-range goal in the 2007/08 season against his future club Mamelodi Sundowns , to which he moved in the summer of 2008, was voted Goal of the Season.

In the summer of 2010, Gaxa joined Lierse SK for 600,000 euros . Two years later he moved back to his home country to join the Kaizer Chiefs .

National team

Gaxa made his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verade on June 4, 2005. A month later he took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the national team. At the African Cup of Nations in 2006 he made a brief appearance against Tunisia, but was not considered for the 2008 tournament. At the Confederations Cup 2009 he was part of the permanent staff under coach Joel Santana and formed the defensive line-up together with Matthew Booth , Aaron Mokoena and Tsepo Masilela during the tournament .
