The sickle- foot mite ( Atractides ovalis ) is a species from the group of freshwater mites (Hydrachnidiae).
features
The animals are yellowish-white and translucent on the edge of the body, the back is very soft-skinned. The most striking feature of the animals are the foremost limbs of the first pair of legs, which have been transformed into a curved hook with a long sword-shaped bristle. The terminal links of the palps are noticeably thickened in the males and normal in the females.
Distribution and way of life
Sickle foot mites live in stagnant and flowing water. They are common, but rarely common.
