A visible slip line , SSL for short or VPL for English. visible panty line is the drawing of the underpants under the outer clothing. Reasons for this can be thick seams, cutting into the underwear due to a poor fit as well as too thin or tight-fitting fabric of the outerwear.

The acronym VPL appears in dialogue in Woody Allen 's 1977 film Der Stadtneurotiker , when Alvy (Allen ) attends a Hollywood party hosted by record producer Tony Lacey ( Paul Simon ). According to the Partridge Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English , the acronym VPL was made famous by the film. There the visible slip line is also referred to as the "most terrible fashion sin".

Some types of underpants or underwear are designed to prevent a visible slipline. Such as Shape product designated flesh-colored bodice bodysuits , the body without external outer seams of Cleavage cover above the knee. This function is also attributed to thong as well as tights .
