Cameltoe or Camel Toe (English literally for "camel toe") referred to in the English vernacular deformation of the clothes in the step in women's pants , which can occur at very closely or casual clothing worn and a "W" is like.

history

The deformation, known colloquially as cameltoe, occurs when the fabric of the clothing slips between the large labia of the woman and reveals the contours of the pubic cleft . The cameltoe effect is favored by tightly cut garments with a seam running in the middle, such as hot pants , jeans , leggings , briefs and swimwear or sportswear. Likewise, there are special clothes like catsuits without step fodder that were worn among other female pop stars especially in the 2000s.

Cameltoes are often considered a fashionable faux pas and are occasionally discussed in consumer magazines and the tabloid press, provided they are shown publicly by celebrities or if they want to help avoid them. The predominantly female US hip-hop group Fannypack dedicated a song to the subject in 2003 under the title Cameltoe .

In the meantime, the term has also become known in other countries outside the United States and found its way into their everyday language, including in the German-speaking area.

In 2005, in the film The Weather Man by Gore Verbinski, the term camel toe was thematized in an ambiguous sense.

underwear

So-called cameltoe guards - a kind of panty liner - are offered to prevent the labia from showing through clothing. A gusset that has already been sewn into the intimate area of the underwear is also generally to be avoided .

In the Asian region in particular, underwear with sewn-in silicone cushions is sold in the form of vulcan replicas that are intended to reproduce such an effect and were initially marketed as party pants . According to a report by Stern in 2017, they would stand for a “new, more openly lived femininity”. The times in which "women had to be ashamed of a pubic area that was unfavorably depressed by their clothing" are over now that celebrities such as Miley Cyrus have shown their femininity. A warning was given in this regard - also from a feminist point of view - against an increase in surgical interventions, such as the reduction of the labia .
