Sideways Hank O'Malley and the Alabama Bottle Boys was an American country group best known for their piece The Ballad Of Chapped Lip Calquhoun .
The piece was used in 1997 in the video game Grand Theft Auto (GTA for short), so it became relatively well known among young people. The band started their career in 1969 with a television appearance. They later separated again. While front man Drew Larg formed The Buzzards , the entire group was dispersed across America.
For the video game GTA, the band got together again in 1997. Colin Anderson, a developer of the game, gave the developer’s US office the task of finding a suitable band for a country song. The 1969 Alabama Bottle Boys performance was remembered and front man Drew Larg was tracked down, now living in Scotland . The band got back together and they played the music so that Larg's vocals could be mixed in later.
