Sidival Fila (born November 25, 1962 in the state of Paraná , Brazil ) is a Brazilian friar and painter .

Career

As a teenager he developed a passion for the fine arts, with a preference for painting. He loved the fourteenth-century medieval tradition, Renaissance and Baroque, but was especially drawn to modern art, impressionism and cubism.

He moved to São Paulo to study, frequently visiting the city's museums and painting with a view to the 20th century art movements of Europe. In 1985, in search of his artistic and personal identity, Sidival moved to Italy and deepened his knowledge of painting and sculpture. A few years after his arrival and various work experiences in Italy, he decided to follow a religious calling. He renounced his personal projects and entered the order of Friars Minor of St. Francis of Assisi .

In 1999 he was ordained a priest in Rome . As a Franciscan priest he works in the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic and volunteered in the Rebibbia prison . In the monasteries of Vitorchiano and Frascati he worked in the field of the formation of young Franciscans. For over 18 years his artistic interest took a back seat. Gradually, mainly through small restoration work on paintings and sculptures, he returned to art. In 2006 he began to paint again, mainly inspired by Jackson Pollock's action painting and an affinity for informal European art and spatial art ( Spazialismo ).

In these first years of new artistic creation he created works of great intensity and formal rigor, all realized from the use of objects and materials that were no longer used, thrown away or out of date: paper, wood, fabric, old paintings, various metals, worn mattresses, plaster of paris.

Sidival Fila lives and works in the Franciscan monastery of San Bonaventura al Palatino in Rome.

First exhibitions

In 2007 he gave his first solo exhibition in the monastery of San Bonaventura in Frascati , near Rome.

Two years later, some of his works were exhibited for the first time in Rome in the Le Passage du Russie gallery in the hotel of the same name. The exhibition aroused the attention and curiosity of the capital's artistic circles. Among them was a foreign exhibitor who brought some of Fila's works to the Principality of Monaco to show them in the "L'Eloquence de la Matière" exhibition of the "Galerie du Gilda Pastor Center".

Sidival was invited to present his work under the motto oltre la trama as part of the Life in Gubbio event ; three of his works were awarded as prizes to Dario Fo (for literature), Gigi Proietti (for theater) and Nicola Piovani (for music).
