The seven lime trees are a natural monument in the district of Stetten in the Baden-Württemberg community of Kernen in the Remstal . They form a vantage point from which you can see the community of Kernen and the lower Remstal . You are the middle name for the Wartbühl .
On July 30, 1974, the seven lime trees with an area of 0.8 hectares were decreed as an extensive natural monument.
Observation deck
As a project within the framework of the State Horticultural Show 2019 ( Remstal green project ), the municipal council decided on March 17, 2016 to build a viewing platform on the Sieben Linden. The decision had to be repeated due to the bias of three municipal councils. The design comes from the engineering office schlaich bergermann partner . This is called Schlaich-Steg by local residents after Jörg Schlaich, who was born in Stetten . An alternative name is Skywalk . The construction costs were capped by the municipality at € 100,000. Local companies have expressed their willingness to participate in the project free of charge.
The 18-meter-long footbridge was planned towards the northeast from the Sieben Linden.
The project was highly controversial. Critics feared a garbage problem, high costs, higher traffic volumes and an increasing number of visitors to the natural monument and doubted the usefulness of the footbridge. Proponents emphasized the low impact on nature. No trees have to be felled. On June 3, 2016, the community was handed a petition against the construction of the footbridge. The quorum was reached with 1,643 valid signatures. Because of this, a referendum took place on November 27, 2016 on the observation deck. The costs for this were estimated at around € 20,000.
Referendum
The construction of the footbridge was rejected by the citizens in a referendum on November 27, 2016. The quorum, which was 2,504 votes, was exceeded.
The official formulation of the question was: Are you in favor of not building a viewing platform on the “Sieben Linden” natural monument?
