Transylvania was a metal band from Sweden , which is characterized by a mixture of Gothic Metal and Black Metal as well as by different voices and in this way produces a very variable sound. The band can be assigned to Dark Metal as a whole ; she herself describes her style as "Vampyric Metal" (like Cradle of Filth ), because her lyrics often come from older vampire and scary stories . The group name goes back to the area of Transylvania in today's Romania, which u. a. known as Transylvania from vampire stories like Dracula .
history
Transylvania was founded in 1994 by Marcus Ehlin ( guitar , vocals) and Anders Rosdahl ( drums ). In the same year, bassist Fredrick Brockert joined them. With this line-up and with the support of violinist and singer Lovisa Hallstedt, the band released their first demo album Transylvania (1996). Shortly afterwards they were reinforced by the guitarist Linus Ekström. In the same year the band played their second demo Ungentum Pharelis , with which they got a record deal with Napalm Records .
In April 1997 her debut album Loreia came on the market, which attracted attention due to the characteristic style. In January 1998 Transylvania released the second album Grimjaur - like all previous releases again with Lovisa Hallstedt. This left the band in 1999 and was replaced by the singer Kicki Hoijertz, with whom the band recorded the album Delictum in February 2000 . In contrast to the previous albums (with - besides English and German - mainly Swedish lyrics) the band wrote their material for this album mainly in English.
In 2000 Richard Bryngelsson joined the band and took over the guitar, Marcus Ehlin concentrated exclusively on the vocals. In 2001 the fourth album Plagued Be Thy Angel was released . As a result, Linus Ekström and Kicki Hoijertz were replaced by Fredrik Folkare and Turid Walderhaug, the latter in turn shortly afterwards by Erika Roos.
After the recordings for Darker Designs and Images in 2005, the band announced their breakup on February 2, 2006. In a joint statement, the band members justified this with a lack of energy and inspiration to continue the band. Almost two years later in November 2007, Marcus Ehlin reanimated the band. In addition to guitarist Richard Bryngelsson and Ehlin himself as singer and bassist, the new members Dennis Ekdahl as drummer and keyboardist Johnnie Gunther form the band. On June 13, 2008, the last album Revelation VI was released on Massacre Records .
