Wiesenau Hohemarkstrasse settlement

Origin and development

The residential area was built from 1910 on the field of farmer Philipp Himmelreich west of the "Wiesenau" inn between Heddernheimer Landstrasse and Urselbach. This year the district was also incorporated. In the older part of the settlement, about four hectares in size, about fifty villas were built in the style of historicism . The two-story development mostly consists of semi-detached houses with spacious front gardens. A prominent resident was the painter Paul Klimsch .

The area is mainly accessed via the Hohemarkstraße, which is connected to the Niederurseler Landstraße via several other residential streets. The Urselbach and the U-Bahn run to the north . The Wiesenau station named after the settlement is also located there.

The country house character of Art Nouveau , Neo-Renaissance and Neoclassicism is characteristic of the architecture of the villas . The houses are mostly covered with steep pitched or hipped roofs, some of which have mid-sized houses. The facades are brightly plastered and designed with cornices and window sills made of natural stone. The complex fencing of the property and the ingrown front gardens are also characteristic of the appearance. Due to the peculiarity of the area, the city of Frankfurt put a conservation statute into effect in 2008, which is intended to maintain the urban design of the settlement.

In the west, directly adjacent to the residential area, the new Niederursel primary school was built in 1928, which was renamed Heinrich Kromer School in 1965 and has since served as a primary school for Niederursel. In the south, the north-west town emerged in the 1960s .
