Settlement of peace

The settlement of peace belongs to the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located about three kilometers southeast of the core town of Salzwedel on the B 71 .

history

The settlement was originally built for military employees who worked on the neighboring military site of Fuchsberg.

In 1935 the construction of the Fuchsberg began in the southeast of Salzwedel. The Air Force was there an air base build. After the war, the area was used again for military purposes. Later units of the NVA and the border troops - from 1971 the helicopter squadron 16 of the border troops and the border regiment 24 "Fritz Heckert" - were stationed there.

In March 1993, the technical relief organization founded a base in Salzwedel. Its office was set up in the former headquarters of the Red Army on the edge of the Settlement of Peace.
