Siegfried I. (Vianden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siegfrid I von Vianden was Count von Vianden (1154–1171) and Vogt von Prüm , after his death his younger brother Friedrich II inherited the County of Vianden.

Around 1156 Siegfried I entered into an alliance with his former rival, Count Heinrich IV of Luxembourg, against the Archbishop of Trier , Hillin von Fallemanien . The aim of this alliance was to regain the castles Arras for Friedrich and Manderscheid for Heinrich. After some looting of the Trier land, an agreement was reached between the warring parties. Trier kept both controversial castles, but in return handed the city of Macher to the Count of Luxembourg and the Count of Vianden is said to have received fortifications that were not identified.
