Siegfried Kademann (* 1924 in Borsdorf ; † August 14, 2000 ) was a German mechanical engineer .

Life

After studying at the TH Darmstadt, Kademann worked for the Henschel and MaK locomotive factories from the 1950s . From 1962 until his retirement in 1987 he was the main department head for locomotive design at the Henschel company in Kassel . During this time he was responsible for Henschel's entire range of locomotives. In addition to numerous export locomotives (for Egypt, China and Pakistan, among others), the DB class 103 and the test diesel locomotive DE2500 , whose drive and running gear technology became the basis for modern three-phase locomotives and the ICE, are particularly noteworthy .

For many years, Kademann had a teaching position in the field of railway engineering at the Technical University of Munich , which awarded him the title of professor. According to the memory of his students, his lectures were characterized by a lot of humor and provided a valuable look at later professional practice through his self-made sketches and sometimes unconventional advice on construction methodology and handling customer requirements. He later put together a number of his humorous accounts of his professional life, especially of his frequent business trips, in the book Railway Stories .

In 1989 he was awarded the Beuth Medal of Honor by the German Machine Technology Society .
