Siegfried Nagel

Siegfried Nagel (* 1968 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Nagel studied mathematics and sport to become a high school teacher and passed his first state examination in 1996 at the University of Tübingen . He worked on the research project "CVs of high-performance athletes" and was supported by the National Olympic Committee Germany with the Willi Daume grant. From 1999 to 2005, Nagel was part of Hartmut Gabler's staff as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Tübingen . In 2001, Nagel completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Tübingen, the title of his dissertation was "Medals in Sport - Success at Work?". In 2002 he obtained a degree in economics from the University of Hagen . In 2005, Nagel completed his habilitation at the University of Tübingen, the subject of his thesis was “Sports clubs in transition - actor-theoretical analysis of sports club development”. Then he was a substitute professor for sports sociology and sports economics at the Institute for Sports Science at the Technical University of Chemnitz until 2006 and then from 2006 to 2008 full professor in the same department at the same university.

In August 2008, Nagel took up a professorship for sports science at the University of Bern . In February 2016 he became director of the Institute for Sport Science at the University of Bern, in May 2016 he also took over the office of chairman of the European Association for Sport Sociology (eass).

Nagel's research focuses on socialization and life course research, he examines the career progression of athletes and coaches, deals with the development of associations and clubs, with the development of sports in municipalities and cities, with integration in and through clubs and with aspects of sports management (including sports organizations , Sports development planning, sports tourism).
