Siegfried von Belzig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siegfried (Latin Sifridus ; † after 1204 ) was Count of Dornburg and Belzig and Burgrave of Brandenburg .

Life

Siegfried was a son of Baderich von Jabilinze († after 1179), who was Count of Jabilinze and Dornburg and the first burgrave of Brandenburg. He was first mentioned in 1170 on the side of his father.

In 1186 he was referred to as Count of Dorneburg and Castellan (Burggraf) of Brandenburg. In the following years he was mentioned several times with one of these designations, in some with his brother Baderich (II.). In 1194 Siegfried had probably handed over the rule in Dornburg to his brother, since then he has mostly been referred to as a burgrave or count, in 1201 Siegfried was referred to as the count of Beltitz ( Belzig ). This is the first unambiguous mention of this place for the family, but Jabelinze may already have been a name for it.

Siegfried was mentioned for the last time in 1204. In 1211 his son Baderich von Belzig († after 1251) was first referred to as Count von Belzig.
