Baderich von Belzig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baderich (also Baderich II. Or III .; † after 1251 ) was Count von Belzig and the last burgrave of Brandenburg .

Life

Baderich was a son of Siegfried , who was Count von Belzig and Burgrave of Brandenburg. In 1211 he was first mentioned as Count von Belzig, then also as castellanus or burggravius of Brandenburg. In the following years Baderich appeared more often in documents, especially for the bishops of Brandenburg, but also for monasteries and churches, as a witness. He was never in the presence of a Brandenburg margrave. This indicates a very bad relationship with them, possibly also in connection with the legal competition between the burgrave's office and the margraves.

Baderich was very likely in the Holy Land ( Palestine ) before 1225 . In 1227 he left the village of Dahnsdorf to the knights of the Teutonic Order to found a commander (the only one in the Brandenburg area). The Saxon Ascanian Duke Albrecht I first appeared as a liege lord.

In 1236 Baderich was last named Burgrave of Brandenburg . Probably in 1237 in the agreements between the Brandenburg margraves and the bishop, with royal permission, this competition office, which was annoying for the Ascanians, was abolished.

Since then Baderich has only been referred to as Count von Belzig. In 1246 and 1247 he made valuable relics donations to monasteries. Baderich was mentioned for the last time in 1251. Since he probably died without a legitimate heir, the county of Belzig fell as a settled fiefdom to the Duchy of Saxony and initially remained in its territory.

Belzig County

In Baderich's time, the county of Belzig probably extended along the upper reaches of the tarpaulin. The property of the villages Dahnsdorf, Borne and Rottstock was mentioned .

Marriage and offspring

Baderich was married to Bertradis from the Hohnstein family in the Harz region; she was mentioned in 1242 and 1251. Children of the two are not known.
