Baderich from Jabilinze

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baderich (Latin Badericus de Jabilinze ; † after 1179 ) was Count of Jabilinze and Dornburg and the first burgrave in Brandenburg .

Life

Baderich was a son of the knight Gottschalk von Gabelizo . He was first mentioned shortly before 1140, when he and his brother Siegfried were captured by Albrecht the Bear after a revolt against them. His brother was killed. Since 1140 he was mentioned more often in documents and registers for monasteries, monasteries and churches in or near Magdeburg, also as a witness to Albrecht the Bear, sometimes together with his brother Alverich von Mehringen . His ancestral seat Jabilinze (Jabelinze) is unknown, probably near Nienburg an der Saale. In 1156 Baderich was first referred to as Count von Dornburg .

In 1157 Baderich was involved in the conquest of Brandenburg . In 1160 he was first referred to as castellanus de Brandenburch , later also as burchgravius . This function was intended to represent royal interests in the newly conquered castle and existed alongside the Margrave of Brandenburg Albrecht.

Baderich was mentioned for the last time in a document in 1179. In 1186 his son Siegfried was first mentioned as the Brandenburg burgrave.

Baderich owned the village of Zernitz in Anhalt.
