The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company was founded in 1980 by Ken Grossman as a home brewery in Chico, California . In 2018, Sierra Nevada was the tenth largest brewery in the United States.
history
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was founded in 1979 by Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi. The name comes from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in North America. The first brewing system came used from Germany and was replaced by a new one in 1989. The first brewed beer the Pale Ale was produced in November 1980. In 1983 the weekly output was 30 to 35 hl. As early as 1987, the brewery was delivering to seven states and producing 14,000 hectoliters annually. Ken Grossman has been the sole owner of the brewery since 1998. Today the brewery employs more than 450 people. In 2014, Sierra Nevada opened a second brewery in Mills River, North Carolina, to serve the east coast.

Standard beers
The beers Pale Ale , Torpedo 'Extra' IPA , IPA Head Hunter , Nooner Pilsner , Otra Vez , Porter , Stout , Old Chico and Kellerweis Hefeweizen , which was developed in cooperation with the Bavarian brewery Gutmann , are available all year round .
Special beers
Three special types of beer are also brewed permanently, these are: Hoptimum IPA, Bigfoot Ale and Narwhal Stout.
Seasonal beers
The beers Beer Camp Tropical IPA, Summerfest Crisp Lager, Oktoberfest and Celebration are only available at certain times.
Special beers
Every year the brewery brings a special new beer onto the market, e.g. B. Estate Homegrown Ale, Ovila Abby Quad and Harvest Single Hop IPA.
