Sigehard (Liègegau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sigehard († after 908) was a count in Lüttichgau and Hainaut in the 9th and 10th centuries.

Sigehard is named as Count of Lüttichgau in a document issued by the East Franconian King Ludwig the Child on October 9, 902. In another document of the same king from January 18, 908 he is named as Count of Hainaut. After that, nothing more is passed down about him.

It is unclear when Sigehard was deployed in Hainaut. The year 898 is taken into consideration, when Reginar I was banished from Lotharingia by King Zwentibold (see Vanderkindere). Sigehard's year of death is also unknown, the next count named in Hainaut was Reginar II.
