Reginar II.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reginar II. († after 932) was from 916 to 932 Count of Hainaut , who in 916 at the side of the West Franconian King Charles III. the simple-minded appears in a document, did not take part in the rebellion of his brother Giselbert against the king, therefore got into a fight with his brother, but later reconciled with him.

origin

Reginar II came from the European high nobility family of the Reginare . He was the second son of the Lower Lorraine dux and marchio Reginar I and his wife Alberada (cl. 916-919). His older brother was Giselbert , who later became Duke of Lorraine. His sister, whose first name is unknown, was married to Berengar Graf im Lommagau and Maifeld, Graf von Namur (cl. 933).

Life

Reginar is first with his brother on January 19, 916 at the side of the West Franconian King Charles III. of the simple- minded mentioned in a document in Herstal . He already had the title of Count ( comes ), but contemporary sources do not provide any information about when he was appointed Count in Hainaut. Possibly he took over the office of Sigehard († after 908), or he could have taken it over directly from his father who died towards the end of 915. The fact that Reginar II officiated as Count of Hainaut is evident from the vita of Gerhard von Brogne and a certificate issued by Emperor Otto I the Great in 966 .

Reginar II carried the rebellion of his brother Giselbert against King Charles III. the simple-minded not with and got into a fight with his brother, in which the Hainaut was devastated by Giselbert. In 924 Giselbert was captured by his brother-in-law Berengar vom Lommegau and only released again after Reginar had taken one of his sons hostage to his brother-in-law. After Lotharingia fell under the sovereignty of the East Franconian Empire until 926, Reginar reconciled himself with his brother, as both recognized the new rule.

Marriage and children

Reginar II was married to Adelheid Duchess of Burgundy, a daughter of Duke Richard the judge and his wife, Adelheid Countess of Auxerre, Duchess of Transjurania. There are at least three sons and one daughter from this marriage:

  • Reginar III. Langhals († 973), Count of Hainaut
  • Rudolf (cl. 944, † after 966), Count in Maasgau and in Haspengau (Hesbaye)
  • Lietard (944 †)
  • NN , ∞ with Count Nevelung von Betuwe (943 †)
