Gérard de Brogne or Gerhard von Brogne (* around 885 in Stave, today Mettet near Namur ; † October 3, 959 in Brogne Abbey near Namur) was a nobleman, abbot , monastery reformer and is a saint of the Catholic Church .

His father Stance came from a ducal family and his mother Plectrude was the sister of Stephan , Bishop of Liège . In his younger years he was in the service of Count Berengar of Namur . However, he soon found himself drawn to a spiritual life. In 914 he had a church and a canon pen built on his estate in Brogne. During a trip to France he entered the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Denis near Paris in 917/918 . After his ordination he returned to Brogne around 923 and converted the monastery into a Benedictine monastery. From Saint-Denis he brought relics of St. Eugenius of Toledo with. His monastic discipline, which was strictly based on the Benedictine order, had an impact far into the Lower Lorraine and Norman regions. 18 other monasteries were reformed by Gerhard among others on behalf of Duke Giselbrecht of Lorraine and Count Arnulf of Flanders . At the end of his life, Gerhard moved back to Brogne. Shortly before his death, he traveled to Rome to have the privileges for his Brogne Abbey confirmed by the Pope. In 959 he died and was buried in his Brogne Abbey. In 1131 he was confirmed as a saint by Rome. Its titular festival is always October 3rd.
