Sigfús Daðason

Sigfús Daðason (born May 20, 1928 in Helgafellssveit ; † December 12, 1996 in Reykjavík , Iceland) was an Icelandic poet , publisher , translator and university lecturer .

Life

Sigfús graduated from the oldest high school in Iceland, the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík , in the same year 1951, in which his first volume of poetry was published. He studied Latin as well as French and German literature at the Sorbonne in Paris for eight years . During this time he published another volume of poetry. He was one of the pioneers of the Modernist Movement in Iceland, the Atomic Poets , who worked together without their own organization or manifesto.

Then Sigfús Daðason was from 1960 to 1975 editor and author for the Icelandic cultural magazine Mál og Menning . At the same time he was managing director of the publishing house Mál og Menning from 1962 to 1976 and since 1971 director of the publishing house. From 1976 to 1995 he started his own business with the Ljóðhús publishing house . He taught at the University of Iceland .

Sigfús died in the University of Iceland hospital in Reykjavík.
