Siwertz 'extensive work includes all literary genres. Above all, it shaped the development of the modern Swedish novel . The first publications were still in the pessimistic climate of the fin de siècle . But under the influence of the ideas of the French philosopher Henri Bergson (1859–1941), Siwertz gained intentional life affirmation in his work: Intensive observation, exact descriptions of the milieu and socially critical issues came to the fore. The author became known in 1911 with his youth book The Mälarpiraten . The Seelambs followed in 1920 . In this Stockholm family saga, Siwertz described the ventures of war profiteers during the First World War .
