Sigebald

The Holy Sigebald († probably 741 the monastery of St. Nabor, today Saint-Avold ) was from about 716 until his death Bishop of Metz . His feast day is October 26th . The old high German name Sigebald (sometimes also Sigibald , French Sigebaud ) means the bold winner .

Sigebald became bishop of Metz around 716. Together with St. Pirminius , he founded the Neuweiler ( Neuwiller-lès-Saverne ) monasteries in Alsace and Hornbach . He renewed the Abbey of St. Nabor (Saint-Avold) in Lorraine , where he also died.

To 991 his remains were in the church St. Symphorian at Metz transferred where it 1,107 collected were. Today there are large parts of the relics of St. Sigebald in the cathedral of Metz .
