Sigismund Reis
Sigismund Reis (* before 1750 in Haßfurt , † October 27, 1779 in Friedberg ) was a German baroque painter .
life and work
Originally from Haßfurt , Reis created numerous church frescoes in the Friedberg area between 1750 and 1779 . For example, he painted the ceiling paintings in the Anwaltinger Filialkirche St. Andreas and in the nearby Salzberg Chapel. A special feature is the popular character of the presentation.
In addition to frescoes, Reis was also commissioned to produce portraits , votive tablets and passion pictures. A portrait of Sebastian Baumann and his wife Barbara serve as an example (both part of the exhibition in the Heimatmuseum des Friedberger Schloss ).
In 1751 Sigismund Reis married the daughter of the Friedberg painter Christian Menrad.
